This webinar series aims to equip and empower church leaders to support the mental health of their congregation and community. Over the course of 3 webinars we will look at the What? Why? and How? for running a Mental Health Series at church, drawing on the experience and expertise of mental health professionals.
Webinar 1:
Matt Sharp, Associate Pastor from Titirangi Baptist Church, talks us through the process that led to him initiating the Tūmanako Mental Health Series at TBC. He explores and explains the What? Why? and How? for running a Mental Health Series at Church. Whilst primarily speaking form a Youth context, Matt will discuss the importance of opening up the discussion to the wider congregation.
Webinar 2:
Matt will be interviewing Jo Appleby, focusing on the importance of starting the discussion around Mental Health within churches and why certain topics should be key?
Webinar 3:
Matt will interview Janine Schache and Kiralee Schache, deconstructing one of the talks that they gave as part of TBC’s Youth mental health series. Revealing the importance of mixing theology and professional input, and demonstrating how it can look.
Presenters

Matt Sharpe is married to Melanie and they have two boys, Oliver and Malachi. Originally from Australia, Matt worked as a Registered Nurse in Intensive Care for 8 years before feeling a calling into Pastoral Ministry. After getting his Master in Divinity, He and his family felt called to New Zealand to serve as Associate Pastor at Titirangi Baptist Church where he primarily overseas Youth and Community.
Jo Appleby is married to James and they have 3 beautiful children. Jo is a mental health social worker. She worked in mental health services for children and youth people for over a decade before moving into mental health lecturing, research and supervision.
Kiralee Schache is a health psychologist working at Middlemore Hospital. She holds a Master of Health Psychology and Postgraduate Diploma in Health Psychology and has experience working in critical care, diabetes, cancer, renal and adolescent health and well-being. Kiralee is also involved in various research projects investigating adolescent mental health and well-being. She is a strong advocate for emphasising the link between spiritual and psychological well-being.
Janine Schache is married to Wayne, with 3 adult children. Janine attends Titirangi Baptist Church. She trained as a registered nurse and has worked in the mental health field for over 8 years. She has a heart for seeing people live fully alive, paying attention to all dimensions of their hauora. She loves spending time with family, enjoys a good ice-cream and a walk along a windy beach.
