Mission in a secular society: Adding voices to the conversation with Paul Windsor (WEBINAR RECORDING)
In this webinar series we will hear from voices in the Bible, the church in pre-Christendom times, and the Majority World, to help us engage in the challenge of mission in Aotearoa-New Zealand. 3 webinars.
Description
As we engage the challenge of mission in Aotearoa-New Zealand, a couple of snobberies can overwhelm us. The first is a chronological one, about which CS Lewis has written. This is where the newest word is closest to being the final word than any earlier word. To this we could add a geographical, or even cultural, snobbery where the nearest word is given a similar preference. The problem with these snobberies is that they can create a bubble within which the newest and nearest is all that we hear. This bubble needs to be burst—by humbly listening afresh to voices in the Bible, in the church in pre-Christendom times and in the church in Majority World spaces.
Sessions
Webinar 1: Voices from In Here: listening afresh to the biblical metaphors.
Webinar 2: Voices from Back Then: the influence of (mostly) little churches in the first centuries.
Webinar 3: Voices from Over There: the endurance of churches in (mostly) hard places beyond Aotearoa and the West.
Presenter
Paul Windsor has been working with Langham Preaching for 15 years—and in the recent decade he has served as the international Programme Director. Prior to this he had 20 years in theological education in NZ—first at Laidlaw College, then at Carey Baptist College, as principal. Other formative influences on his life have been: a full childhood in a missionary family in India; a theological education at TEDS in the USA; a pastoral ministry at Georgetown Baptist Church in Invercargill; and the completion of a DMin thesis on “The Role of Intrigue in the Communication with Sceptics”. He has been married to Barby for 41 years and they enjoy their nine children (including the four in-laws here!) and nine grandchildren.
