4 webinars RECORDINGS. This webinar journey is an invitation to engage – from a pastor’s perspective – in the calling to reach people and grow them to Christlikeness.
Description
A surfer caught in a rip is really happy to be plucked out of the water and into the rescue boat, but, that same surfer does not want to spend the rest of their life in the rescue boat! The rescued surfer wants to be transferred to another place. “For He [Jesus] has RESCUED us from the kingdom of darkness and TRANSFERRED us into the Kingdom of His dear Son…” (Colossians 1:13)
Growing Healthy Disciples in my Church is a webinar journey about going beyond the rescue of people from darkness, and exploring the process of transferring those people to growth and life in the Kingdom of God. Growing Healthy Disciples in my Church is an invitation to engage – from a pastor’s perspective – in the calling to reach people and grow them to Christlikeness.
This 2-month online teaching series will consist of 4 one-hour webinars each a fortnight apart, with some homework to do between webinars. In the weeks between webinars Kingsley will have ‘office hours’ on Zoom for 45-minutes for any participants who would like to discuss the content and share any experiences with Kingsley and each other.
Webinar 1
Letting Jesus take you (and others) where you have never gone before.
An overview of the journey of twelve men through the gospel of Matthew, exploring how faith develops. We will review the three parties involved in disciple-making: God, the disciple-maker and the disciple.
Webinar 2
How to fish for people when there’s lots of pressure to just keep the aquarium.
What is the Pastor’s role in church discipleship? We will consider Jesus’ ministry to three people, to twelve people and to crowds, and we will ask how discipleship can occur through small groups, through leadership structures, through church gatherings and online. Sunday morning is not sufficient as a discipleship strategy but Sunday morning should really count, we’ll ask how.
Webinar 3
Beyond the milkshake…
Moving on from milk to solid spiritual food. We will consider stages of growth in a Christian’s life and reflect on how to spur people to grow to the next stage of maturity. We need growing healthy disciples in our churches so that we fully release the potential of the local church to be the hope of the world.
Webinar 4
Doing it again… and again… and again.
Disciples make disciples. What are some replicable structures and spiritual habits that turn church attenders into disciple-makers? How do we guard what we are re-producing?
Presenter
Kingsley Morris was born and bred in Auckland and returned to the City of Sails in 2020 after 18 years away. Kingsley worked full-time with youth in Auckland with Scripture Union before heading to Picton Baptist Church where he was the sole pastor for 15 years. Throughout that time he was also involved in the youth leadership. From 2017–2019 Kingsley and family lived in Malawi where they served with SIM in Leadership Development and Discipleship amongst the African Evangelical Church. In May 2020 Kingsley began as Senior Pastor of Westgate Baptist Church in Auckland. Through all of the above contexts, as well as through itinerant ministry in New Zealand and overseas, Kingsley has become convicted that making disciples always produces a church but making a church very rarely produces disciples! Kingsley has been married to Maree since 1999 and they have two daughters, Lydia & Hannah.
